PATRICK BATEMAN
Patrick Bateman is a fictional character created by Bret Easton Ellis and is the main character in the 1991 novel: American Pyscho and the 2000 film adaptation by Mary Harron. He is a man consumed by greed and envy to the point where he will murder his peers to feel the satisfaction of being in power.
As his most apparent and controlling emotion is greed I believe he is a good character to research for my project, he is also portrayed as an overly violent and vicious man filled with wrath, as one of this project aims is to create a violent and frightening atmosphere he presents a lot of the qualities I would like to portray in my comic. I have researched and reviewed Mary Harron's representation of him as a character and taken notes for my own character development.
Using this research I chose an iconic scene from the film to study and tried present a clear story board using pencil sketches to illustrate the feelings of violence, rage and fear used in the scene, experimenting with story telling without dialogue and how that can translate from a film into still images.

As this character has a clear connection with the atmosphere that I hope to portray, I started to explore different ways of drawing him using similar styles to the artists I have researched that I believe relate to the visual aims of my brief. I will continue to explore different drawing styles while developing my own that also fits my criteria to continue with throughout my project.
